Pilot

1. I met Helgo Hohenstein and co-pilot for him in the Trans Atlantic 2005 and the following Trans Agulhas. Afterwards I bought my own rig.

2. It has now been 4 years, but we only start racing Nationals in 2006.

3. We are busy competing in our 3rd season together. I will never race with any other co-pilot than Jan! Hopefully there will be many more years together.

4. I am fortunate enough to co-own a company called Basson Workwear.

5. As a school boy I played cricket for Boland from a young age. After school I was selected for Boland Rugby team under 19 at full back. Jan and I would also like to compete in the Dakar one day!

6. Make sure you get the right advice from a well known pilot or someone involved in the sport. Do your homework well. Then race as much as possible. At times it will be hard, especially in the beginning. But stick it through and you will reap the rewards. Always remember that the sport is bigger than you!

7. Let's make this event a tough race on the water, but one to remember for the friendships that came fromthe sport that we love.

Co-pilot

1. Steyn and I have been friends for I long time, when he told me of this exciting rubber duck racing he started. After hearing all his exciting stories of hectic sea conditions and close competition between competitors, I always thought I would also enjoy participating. Luckily for me Steyn decided
to become a Pilot and he invited me to join him in competing in the Trans Agulhas 06/07. This is where everything started…

2. It has now been 4 years, but we only start racing Nationals
in 2006.

3. This is our 3rd season together!

4. I am a Financial Consultant at Private Wealth Management (Old Mutual)

5. I did various sports at school that include: Rugby, Athletics, Tennis and Squash. I'm a good diver and waterskier too.

6. Always believe in yourself, have respect for the sea and your competitors and remember to enjoy everything at all times.

7. I couldn’t have said it better than Steyn.
